Modifiers: Outnumbered by PCs: +3 SAR (they're scared)  PCs look wealthy: -2 SAR (greed/curiosity)  PCs obviously wounded: -3 SAR (look like easy prey)  Previous reputation: +/- 2 SAR based on party's actions Reaction by Effort: Failure or Effort 1-3: Hostile - Attacks or flees immediately  Effort 4-7: Unfriendly - Wants you gone, may attack if provoked  Effort 8-11: Neutral - Will talk/trade but suspicious  Effort 12-15: Friendly - Helpful if it costs them nothing  Effort 16-20: Allied - Actively helpful, may join temporarily  Fortune (1): Devoted - Completely won over (GM determines why)  Folly (20): Betrayal - Seems friendly but planning treachery Setting Social Armor for Reactions: When encountering NPCs or intelligent monsters whose disposition isn't obvious, the player with highest Parley rolls , with Effort reduced by the creature's Social Armor Rating. As an easy default, consider SAR of 10 + Hit DIce (HD).  Or:  Naturally hostile creatures (goblins, orcs): SAR 15  Territorial/suspicious (guards, wolves, bandits): SAR 12  Neutral (merchants, travelers): SAR 10  Potentially friendly (same lineage, faction, guild, etc): SAR 8

Unlike the Advantage/Disadvantage system used in Dungeons and Dragons 5e or the variable saving throw tables in Old-School Essentials (OSE), the CRAWL! Unified d20 Roll simplifies resolution by immediately defining the roll as the Effort value.
