When encountering NPCs or intelligent monsters whose disposition isn’t obvious, the player with highest Parley rolls , with Effort reduced by the creature’s Social Armor Rating. As an easy default, consider SAR of 10 + Hit DIce (HD). Or:
- Naturally hostile creatures (goblins, orcs): SAR 15
- Territorial/suspicious (guards, wolves, bandits): SAR 12
- Neutral (merchants, travelers): SAR 10
- Potentially friendly (same lineage, faction, guild, etc): SAR 8
