Core Mechanic: One D20 Roll: Crawl! uses a single d20 die roll for everything you do. Skills represent your training and natural talent combined. Roll a d20 equal to or under your skill score to succeed. The number you rolled on the d20 becomes your Effort (how well you succeeded). Skill Check Procedure: 1. Determine Score: Confirm the character's final Skill Score (Attribute + Training). 2. Roll: Roll 1d20. 3. Compare: Compare the d20 result to the Skill Score. If the roll is equal to or under the score, the check succeeds. 4. Effort Value: If successful, the roll result is your base Effort value. 5. Modifiers: Apply any gear, tool, or circumstantial modifiers (which may add to or subtract from the final Effort score). 6. Failure: If the roll is over the Skill Score, the check is a Failure. Determining Skill Score: The final Skill Score against which you roll is calculated by combining your base attribute and any learned training.
