Special Results: 1 and 20: The Skill Check d20 has two special results that override normal rolls.  When you roll a 1, you've achieved legendary success.  When you roll a 20, disaster strikes. Fortune Roll Effects: Automatic success regardless of skill  Effort becomes 20 (not 1!)  Cannot be defended against if attacking Folly Roll Effects: Automatic failure regardless of skill  Something bad happens (GM describes the complication)

Unlike D&D 5e's critical hits that simply double damage dice, or OSE's lack of a critical system, CRAWL!'s Fortune mechanic (rolling natural 1) provides both automatic success AND transforms your Effort to 20 for narrative impact.
