You cannot improve a skill beyond Expert (+3).  You cannot have more than three Expert skills in total.  You must have used the skill at least once since your last advancement.

Compared to Dungeons & Dragons 5e and Old-School Essentials (OSE), CRAWL! simplifies mechanics while maintaining tactical depth. You cannot improve a skill beyond Expert (+3).
